I came across a great article on MSN Lifestyle. Wedding Guests’ Secret Gripes by Meredith Bodgas. There are some interesting points about flow, timing and fun that we can all relate too. Here is a sample.
You’re Boring Us
The ceremony may be the most important part of the day to you, but the reception is what we’re really looking forward to. When it takes forever to get dinner served, each speech is 25 minutes long, and you play a string of songs that are all inside jokes with the same group of friends, there isn’t much time for getting our groove on. Uh, and if the band’s so bad that no one’s dancing — including you and your groom — we just think, Why are we even here? Showing us a really good time is the least that you can do to thank us for giving up our free day, traveling, and getting you an expensive gift.
Sharon Jayson of the USA Today wrote a great article on when is the right time to get married.
Emily Becker wanted to be married by age 30. In June, at age 28, she and Joe Becker, 29, were married. They were the last of their group to tie the knot.
Even though they began dating in 2003 — around the same time as most of their friends — “it took us almost twice as long to get married,” she says. “We both knew we wanted to marry each other. We just kept having to put it off.”
Flashbox is a new company, based right here in Pittsburgh, and has been a hit at weddings so far. The technology behind the sleek, slim kiosk was designed by Carnegie Mellon graduates. Because of that, FlashBox is currently only available to Western Pennsylvania couples–giving them a chance to use this new gadget before anyone else in the country.
I was watching KDKA TV News earlier this week and they had an interesting story on Hot Wedding Trends for 2008. Click Here For Video.
While I am not so sure on the Flashbox video or renting furniture for your reception, Event Lighting has earned some huge buzz this year. Accent or “Up-lighting” is old technology where Par Cans set on the floor can shoot up walls, columns, or special accent areas in any color you wish and usually matching the theme color of your event. Another Lighting trend is Gobo Projection. This is where your monogram, married last name, or even a short message to you guests can be displayed.
